Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer (P-EBT) Program

On May 12, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Purdue announced that Ohio has been approved to operate Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT).

Administered by the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services, the P-EBT program provides additional monetary assistance to households with children eligible for free or reduced-price meals dealing with school closures.

Ohio’s P-EBT flyer is for households with children eligible for free or reduced-price meals.

The flyer provides information about the program and benefits to eligible families and students.

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services is partnering with the Ohio Department of Education to provide families with children in kindergarten through twelfth grade, that have been eligible for free or reduced-price meals with temporary Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to help with the cost of nutritious meals. Families do not need to apply for the P-EBT benefits.

How much will an eligible child receive?
Each child is eligible for $5.70 for each day a school is closed due to COVID-19. For children eligible for free and reduced-price meals as of March, the total amount will be $302.10. For children eligible for free and reduced-price meals as of April, the total amount will be
$239.40.

How will families get the SNAP P-EBT?
Current SNAP households will receive the additional benefits on their current Ohio Direction Card.   Non-SNAP households will receive a P-EBT card for each eligible child in their name.

When will families get the P-EBT benefits?
The P-EBT benefits will be available in SNAP accounts (for children currently on SNAP) by the end of May 2020.  P-EBT cards will also be mailed to non-SNAP families at this time. At this time, this is a one-time benefit.

Who should families contact with questions about the P-EBT benefit?
For general program questions or questions about benefits or the P-EBT card, please have the family contact the ODJFS customer service line at 1-866-244-0071.

If the family has questions about whether or not a child was eligible for free and reduced-price meals on or before April 29, 2020, they should contact their local school district.
