John Cariani’s Popular Play Set to Take Residence in our Black Box Theatre

Student-Directed Work Leads to Surprises and Joy

(Friday, December 20, 2019 – Akron, OH)  -- The residents of Almost, Maine experience love and loss and John Cariani’s popular play, Almost, Maineset to take up residence in the Black Box Theatre at Firestone CLC. Performances of Almost Maine will be held at 7:00 p.m. on January 9, 10, and 11, 2020. General admission tickets to Almost Maine are $8.00 in advance and $10.00 at the door. All tickets are available online and at the door on the night of performance.

 

Almost, Maine by John Cariani features a story set on one cold, clear, winter night, as the northern lights hover over a star-filled sky above. The residents of Almost, Maine, find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected ways.


Almost Maine, consists of nine short plays each under the direction of a current Firestone student. “This Hurts” is under the direction of senior Sarah Sterns and features Jamie Zickefoose and Jaxx Chelin. “Her Heart” is under the direction of senior Morgan Bedilion and features Marlen Muratbevov and Fiona Coughlin. “Getting Her Back” is under the direction of Alexandria Meyer and features Alison Lohr and Max Smith.  “Sad + Glad” is directed by senior Jillian Foster and features Austin Prince, Alexis Robles, and Lauren Beeson. “Where It Went” is directed by senior Oscar Laakso and features Peter Kolodziej and Constance Hairston. “The Story of Hope” is directed by senior Joyous White and features Terrance Bailey, Jazaiah Curtin, and Faith Stephenson. “They Fell” is directed senior Ariel Brinker and features Arawen Hernandez and Mel Searle. “Seeing the Thing” is directed by senior Jonathan Green and features Cierra Jacobs-Mack and Jonathan Raber. A prologue and epilogue featuring Shomari Bryant Keirra Ashley is under the direction of Firestone theatre director Mark A. Zimmerman. Senior Hannah Burford serves as the production manager.

 

The next production of the 2019-2020 season is the popular musical A Chorus Line under the direction of senior theatre students. This monumental musical will be held in the Linda B. Kersker Auditorium at Firestone CLC. Curtain times for A Chorus Line are set for 7:30 p.m. on April 3, 4, 9, 10, and 11, 2020. General admission tickets to A Chorus Line are $10.00 in advance and $12.00 at the door. Reserved tickets to A Chorus Line are $14.00. Preferred, VIP tickets to A Chorus Line are $17.00. All tickets are currently available online and at the door on the night of performance.

 

Firestone Theatre provides an excellent audience experience as well as student-centered performances designed to challenge and entertain a discerning audience. The exciting new season includes plays set to appear in the beautifully appointed Kersker Theater with its exquisite acoustics and state-state-of-the-art lighting as well as even more impressive plays in our intimate Black Box Theater which features new seating risers to improve sightlines for all patrons.

 

Firestone Theatre is the award-winning play and musical-production component of the Akron School for the Arts housed at Firestone Community Learning Center. Firestone Theatre was named an “Outstanding School” by the Educational Theatre Association in 2013. The curricular track of Firestone Theatre is accessible to all rising ninth-grade students via open enrollment and a formal audition.
