Weekly Update for March 23rd                                              


Communication in This New Time

Mr. Sandy (Academy Counselor) and Ms. Kotran (Academy Principal)  will send a newsletter every Monday to keep you informed. Email is best for communication at this time.  


For assignments’ specific questions or concerns: email teachers.  Teachers will also be posting office hours in their Google classrooms.


For questions about credits/transcripts/scheduling/applications: Email Mr. Sandy. Office Hours (Mon-Fri) 10am-12pm.

Online Learning Expectations for All Freshman Students

Week of 3/23

-Finish any make-up work from the 3rd nine weeks according to each teacher’s make-up work policies. If in doubt, email your teacher.

-Complete your Career Cruising Standards. Reach out to your Seminar teacher or Mr. Sandy with questions, or if you forgot your username and password

-Work on District released activities

-Some teachers have posted lessons to jump start learning and extra credit on Google Classroom


Looking Ahead to Week of 3/30.

-Teachers will be posting lessons to complete each week we are closed.

-Monday and Wednesday will be an “A” day schedule.  Students must log in to A day Google classrooms and engage in work for attendance and 4th nine weeks grades.

-Tuesday and Thursday will be a “B” day schedule. Students must log in to B day Google classes and engage in work for attendance and 4th nine weeks grades.

-Fridays will be catch up days and for completing your career cruising standards

-Teachers will be posting “office hours” for next week. These office hours will serve as time to reach out to your teacher with questions and clarifications.

Cyberbullying

Let us start by saying we hope you do not need this information.  However, with the extra time everyone is spending in digital platforms this can become a reality. Here is the link for the district bullying form that you can fill out if you are experiencing bullying.

Academic & Community Programs Currently Accepting Applications

-Upward Bound Classic through the University of Akron is currently accepting applications for 9th and 10th grade students. More information and the application can be found here: https://www.uakron.edu/aap/ub/ 


-The 330 Ambassador’s Program is also currently accepting applications until April . Announcements

-Marking period 3 grades will not be posted until Thursday, April 9th due to the Coronavirus. Check with your teacher what assignments you can make up.


-Pre-IB students taking AP US History will still have the chance to take the AP test for college credit. Due to the coronavirus, the format has changed. Mrs. Heard (AP Coordinator) will email you the necessary information so that you can still take advantage of this opportunity sometime soon if she has not already.


-Most of you took the PSAT 8/9 on October 1st. It is strongly advised that you visit https://www.khanacademy.org/ and link your PSAT 8/9 scores from the College Board website so that you can get personalized feedback and practice. Studies show that the more time you spend on Khan Academy practicing, the higher your actual ACT and SAT scores will be as you get older.

-It is not a good idea to take extended time off of a foreign language. A good resource for keeping up on your foreign language skills is https://www.duolingo.com/
