The mission of the event is to inform and encourage young people to pursue educational and professional opportunities that exist in various science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines.

The following Akron Public Schools students were awarded Goodyear Scholarships at the event.

At the event, students toured the campus and visited the Student Union, College of Engineering and the Goodyear Polymer Center.  Students had the opportunity to interact with University of Akron students and other local high school

APS students attended individual professional mentoring sessions with Goodyear employees and visited the InfoFair. The InfoFair was a collaboration of STEM Professionals from the Cavaliers, the Armed Forces, and several other companies and

The students were able to speak with the professionals about STEM careers in their industries.  As well, students attended an interactive Microsoft session about chatbots and participated in a smokeless paper demonstration during a session with Professor.

To prepare students for the event, Goodyear employees facilitated hands-on lessons in 9th grade science classes at eight high schools. The lessons allowed students to participate in a hands-on activity measuring bounce height of a ball in room temperature, boiling water and dry ice.

During the lesson, students viewed a three-dimensional tendered simulation of a machine that makes tires and the components of making a tire. The lesson was an introduction to the need for several types of tires that perform at different temperatures.
