Firestone senior Kalia Horner was awarded a Gold Key in the Scholastics Art and Writing Awards for her entire portfolio titled "Cultural Identity". The Gold Key is awarded to the very best works submitted to local programs. Gold Key works are then automatically considered for national-level recognition.

One of Kalia's pieces titled "Too Foreign For Home, Too Foreign For Here, Never Enough For Both" earned the American Visions & Voices Medal Nomination.  

In addition to the regional awards, her entire portfolio was awarded a National Silver Medal.  She was also awarded an additional National Silver Medal for one of her paintings titled, "Push and Pull"!
